Chapter 11. Developing a Database Admini... > Building the Foundation for the Admi...

Building the Foundation for the Administration Site

Think of the administration site as a completely separate Web site from the site we have been building. Sure, they may share the same logo, the same database connection, and many of the same functions, but access to the administration site will be restricted using different criteria than the main site. In addition, those who do access it may need to see additional information, accessing functions such as adding, editing, and deleting records that the traditional visitor doesn’t need to have access to.

As a separate site, you need to build the administration site from the ground up and include functionality such as login and logout pages, a site-wide page template, and a menu to guide authenticated visitors. Although this may sound like a big task, using the connections you have already established along with UltraDev’s server behaviors and live objects, you can create a fully functional administration site in no time.
