Setting Up a Database Connection and Recordset

The first step in building dynamic pages is to familiarize yourself with the process of communicating with the database and adding placeholders for your dynamic data to your page. When you created the ODBC data source for your database in Chapter 3, you gave your Web server software the ability to talk directly to the database.

Dynamic pages, however, aren’t able to talk directly to the ODBC data source without a helper known as a database connection. This connection lets UltraDev know the path to your database and the type of database (such as Access, MySQL, or Oracle) you are using.
