Cleaning Up HTML Created with Microsoft Word

It's very convenient while working in Word to save a document as a web page. Word does a great job of creating a web page that looks very similar to the Word document and you can open and edit the web page in Word. The problem is that Word maintains a lot of extra code in the web page. If you do not need to edit the web page in Word again and you'd like to put it on the Web, you can use Dreamweaver to clean up the extra code.

To save a Word document as a web page, select File, Save as Web Page. Word prompts you to name the document and adds the .htm file extension. The resulting page has a lot of extra code; Dreamweaver knows which code is extraneous and can delete that code. It's fun to take note of the number of lines of code in the file before you run the Clean up Word HTML command.
