Hour 2. A Tour of Dreamweaver > Acquainting Yourself with Dreamweaver

Acquainting Yourself with Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is a complete web development environment and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) editor, an authoring tool, a dynamic web page development tool, and a website management tool, all rolled into one. Web pages are created using HTML, but you can do many things without ever laying your eyes on any HTML. If you want to produce professional-quality web pages, including scripting, Dreamweaver makes it easy to do so.

HTML is the language of web pages. It consists mainly of paired tags contained in angle brackets (<>). The tags surround objects on a web page, such as text, or stand on their own. The ending tag of the paired tag always begins with a forward slash. Very few tags, such as the tag used to insert an image into a web page, are single tags: <img src="smile.gif">.
