47. About Table Borders, Colors, Backgrounds, and Spacing

Beyond the basics of tables, there's a lot you can do to dress them up.

You can give a table its own background color (different from the page's background color or image), choose the thickness and color of the table border, and add extra space between cells or between the contents of cells and the cell walls around the contents. You can even give a row or column of a table a different background color than the rest of the table, which is a great way to set off row or column headings.
