Browser Issues

Whether generated by a program or generated by hand, HTML cross-browser compatibility is a common problem, even on commercial Web sites. In some cases, the browser guesses what you intended to do and often renders the page correctly even though the HTML is wrong. This is nice if you happen to be using a browser that has correctly fixed the problem, but if you're not, the results can be very difficult to debug.

Table Rendering

Let's start with the most common design problem that you'll run into—especially if you end up tweaking your HTML by hand. Rather than give away what the problem is, try entering the HTML found in Listing 20.1 into a text file, and then view it using a Netscape 4.x browser.
