Day 13. Restricting User Access > Maintaining a Session

Maintaining a Session

With the user properly logged in to the system, the problem becomes one of maintaining the user information as users pass from page to page on the site. There are two ways to maintain the identity of users as they make their way through the Web site.

First, the user identifier can be passed from page to page as a portion of the URL, or embedded in a form. This method of session management is useful in that it does not rely on cookies to keep track of users. You'll find that if you implement a site using cookies to handle session management, eventually someone will complain.
