Day 7. Preparing a Server for Dreamweave... > Creating a PHP Application Server on...

Creating a PHP Application Server on Mac OS X

Setting up a Web application server in Mac OS X requires the same steps as on Windows, except that Mac OS X includes PHP rather than ASP, so all you'll need to do is activate it. As I've said before, PHP is not fully supported in Dreamweaver MX, but if you've got a Mac, it's the easiest solution for creating a compatible application server.

Even if you don't want to use Mac OS X as your application server, you can still use MySQL as the backend database for a Windows or UNIX server. Installing MySQL isn't completely trivial—you'll need to type a few extra commands at the command–line—but it's nothing you can't handle. Just be sure to follow the instructions provided here exactly.
