User Authentication

The User Authentication behaviors provide a means of restricting Web page access based on usernames, passwords, and access levels stored in a database table. Dreamweaver MX's authentication behaviors compare input from an HTML form to the database information. If they match, a session variable called MM_Username is set. On subsequent pages, this session variable can be checked to see whether the user has access to the page. There are a total of four authentication behaviors, which we'll take a look at now.

Log In User

The Log In User behavior, shown in Figure 9.12, has a rather large configuration screen, but is really very easy to set up. This behavior should be added directly to a login screen. Everything is handled automatically—all you need to do is supply a form.
