Day 1. Getting Started > The Dreamweaver MX Interface

The Dreamweaver MX Interface

In many ways, Dreamweaver MX is two applications in one: a Web page design tool (Dreamweaver) and a utility for connecting Web pages to dynamic database-driven information (that's the MX part). These components are integrated into the same interface, but are used independently. If you want to create a Web site with a few simple pages, you won't be forced to use any of the MX-specific features. Likewise, if you have an existing Web site that you'd like to connect to a database system, you can easily do so without delving into the design tools.

The first week of Sams Teach Yourself Dreamweaver MX in 21 Days will help you get up to speed with all the Dreamweaver MX tools and prepare you for the dynamic application development in the rest of the book. Becoming comfortable with the basic tools and palettes is the first step in creating documents that both look and work great.
