Workshop

The Workshop area is meant to reinforce your reading with a series of questions and exercises.

Q&A

Q1: What databases can be used with Dreamweaver MX?
A1: Almost any modern database includes both ODBC and JDBC drivers—even Microsoft's SQL server. You'll have no problem finding a way to connect to almost any database.
Q2:How can connections be transferred between computers?
A2: Connections are stored directly with the site files in a Connections directory. Any user who defines his or her site using the same parameters will have access to the same connection definitions.
Q3:Why can't you use other databases from PHP?
A3: You can, but not in the Dreamweaver MX environment. Don't look at this as a serious limitation, however. MySQL recently outperformed many csommercial systems in an eWeek database server shootout, and it's a bit cheaper than the alternatives.
Q4:How do I determine the address/hostname of my database server?
A4: If you set up the database/Web server combination described yesterday, it is the same as the network address of that computer. If you're running everything on the same computer, you can use the address 127.0.0.1 or localhost.
