Summary

Today's lesson covered setting up connections to the databases that will drive your dynamic Dreamweaver MX sites. You can connect to databases either locally or through your deployment application server.

Depending on the application server, many different technologies are available for connecting to a database: OLE DB, ODBC, ColdFusion, JDBC, and MySQL. Macintosh users can use these connection types, but rather than relying on local database drivers, they can take advantage of drivers on the application server itself. The exception to this is when using JDBC or legacy UltraDev 4 ColdFusion configurations. Both of these connection types offer Mac users the capability to connect using JDBC drivers.
