Day 8. Defining a Dynamic Site > Interacting with the Application Server

Interacting with the Application Server

Because we're dealing with multiple platforms today, beyond this introduction the text will be divided into sections that are either universal or platform specific and will be denoted as such. Additionally, some sections only apply to ASP (Active Server Pages), JSP (Java Server Pages), ColdFusion, or PHP development. You might want to skip to the section that applies to you, as the information is relatively repetitive.

Note

Today's assumption is that you already have a database server up and running. If this isn't the case, turn back to yesterday's lesson for installing and preparing MySQL. It's fast, free, and perfectly suited for Web application deployment. For beginners, database files are provided for MS Access so that you can get up and running without anything extra.
