Week: 2 At a Glance > Advanced Components: Catalogs, Searches

Day 14. Advanced Components: Catalogs, Searches

Today's advanced topic involves creating a catalog system. A catalog can be any listing of items that is displayed on the computer—usually featuring item details and other information. The contents of the catalog are completely up to you. In this example, however, the catalog will be very much like a product catalog, containing product descriptions and other information.

You have already looked at a basic catalog system that listed various types of dogs. This system, however, will include advanced features beyond those in the earlier system. Today, you'll learn how to:

  • Create and test a catalog database system.

  • Create an advanced interface that explores new server behaviors.

  • Set up search functionality for a database.

  • Find items based on keywords in their descriptions.

  • Navigate between detail screens without returning to a search window.
