Week: 2 At a Glance > Storing, Editing, and Updating Data

Day 11. Storing, Editing, and Updating Data

Yesterday you learned how to create pages that are driven by a database, all from within the Dreamweaver MX point-and-click interface. Now, instead of creating static HTML, you can build Web sites that pull data from your live corporate (or not-so-corporate) databases. Think of the amount of time you'll save rekeying information. Unfortunately, the only input interface that you have to this data is the database itself. In today's lesson, you'll learn how to build additional Web pages in Dreamweaver MX that will allow you to insert, update, and delete records in your online application—from anywhere on the Internet. In this chapter, you will learn how to:

  • Create forms. So far you haven't had much use for the form tools of Dreamweaver MX because you haven't had a reason to use them. Today, you will.

  • Connect a form to a database to save user-created data.

  • Delete data from a database. Unless you're a perfect typist and your data never needs to be replaced, you'll also want to know how to remove information from databases.

  • Modify database entries. Although the process of deleting and inserting can be used as a crude form of modifying data, wouldn't it be nice to be able to change the existing values and resave them? Of course it would!
