Day 15. Advanced Techniques: Static to Dynamic > Getting Your User's Feedback

Getting Your User's Feedback

The final mini-project for the day is a guestbook. The benefits of providing a guestbook for your users is so they don't feel that their feedback is “going nowhere.” How many times have you visited a Web site and clicked a link to leave feedback, only to find that it opens your e-mail program so you can send a message to a nameless/faceless person who will never reply. A guestbook lets the users leave their mark on a Web site—something that can't easily be ignored.

I'm sure that you have some concerns about the messages a user can leave in a guestbook, and you should. It's not uncommon for an unfriendly person to take advantage of a public forum to display his or her immaturity. Inappropriate language, embedding images, and inappropriate HTML tags in plain text, and so on—there are plenty of potential problems. We'll see if this guestbook can't overcome some of downfalls.
