Building the Login Pages (login.asp and error.asp)

As mentioned earlier, the testing screen is the primary screen for handling the interactions with the users. It is not, however, the first screen that we need to build. In order to store the information that a user enters on the Web site, the system must first know who the user is. This needs to be a somewhat secure system, so we'll build this login system using Macromedia's authentication routines and the MM_username session variable that you've seen in previous chapters.

There's nothing special about this login page. All we really need is a form (frmLogin) with the username and password fields and a submit button to test them. Create a new file within your site named login.asp, and then design a basic login form. A sample login screen is shown in Figure 18.2.
