Part: V Using Advanced Features > Formatting Text with Cascading Style Sheets

Hour 18. Formatting Text with Cascading Style Sheets

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are a powerful design tool for Web designers. Cascading Style Sheets not only give you the ability to format text in ways not possible in standard HTML, but they also provide a method to change multiple text attributes at the same time to text that has had the style applied.

Keep in mind that not all style sheets are compatible with all browsers. Generally, a browser version 4x or higher will view style sheets properly, but even then, some attributes will work on one browser but not another. We will address this subject toward the end of this hour, but in the meantime, check your pages in both browsers and avoid checking in just the GoLive preview.

In this hour, you'll learn about the following:

  • Creating Element, Class, and ID style sheets in GoLive

  • Defining fonts with style sheets

  • Defining text attributes with style sheets

  • Applying style sheets to existing pages

  • Avoiding Web browser incompatibilities with style sheets

  • Prioritizing style sheets to set style override levels
