Hour 4. Formatting and Stylizing Text > Importing Text into Your Web Page

Importing Text into Your Web Page

As with most tasks in GoLive, placing text onto a page can be accomplished several ways. You can open your text document in the application in which it was created, and then use copy and paste to put it into GoLive. You can open text documents such as those created in SimpleText, Notepad, or BBEdit right in GoLive. (Windows users will need the .txt extension.) Many word processors such as Microsoft Word offer an “Export as HTML” option. After the file has been exported, simply open it up in GoLive. This method has the advantage of preserving much—although not always all—of your formatting. Advanced users who prefer to format text by using style sheets might prefer to bring in their text with no formatting at all. (For more on style sheets, please refer to Hour 18, “Formatting Text with Cascading Style Sheets.”)

If the text has not yet been created, you can type it directly onto your page, or into a layout text box that you have placed on a layout grid on your page. After your text is on the page, you can move it around, color it, change the size or style of it, and select the font in which it will be displayed. When you have laid out your text just the way you want it, you can then run a spell check on the page to double-check for spelling errors. This section begins by first adding some text onto your page.
