Hour 11. Designing Pages with Frames > Targeting Pages from Within Your Site

Targeting Pages from Within Your Site

Earlier in the hour, we mentioned that you must name every frame in your frame set. There is a very good reason for that. When you click a link in one frame, you must tell the browser whether to open the link in the same frame, open the link in one of the other frames, in the whole browser window, or even in a brand-new browser window. As default, if you click on a link the page replaces itself. This can defeat the purpose in a framed page, especially when the navigation bar replaces itself!

When you name each of the frames in your frame set, you make it easy to designate where a link will open when a user clicks it.
