Recording a Simple DHTML Animation

Many Web designers these days use .swf (pronounced swiff, it stands for ShockWave Format) files to create complex animations as an entry into their Web sites. .swf is one of the formats output by Adobe LiveMotion, Macromedia Flash, and a few other programs. People often refer to these files as Flash files, although in actuality, they are .swf files.

Although there are a lot of great things you can do with .swf files, and particularly with LiveMotion SmartObjects in GoLive, there are similar effects you can create with DHTML in GoLive alone. Employing DHTML for animation eliminates the need for the user to have the Flash plug-in installed in his browser. The one caveat is that for DHTML to work properly, the user must have a browser of version 4 or greater.
