Exercises

The following exercises are designed to show you some of the creative effects you can generate using DHTML, and to familiarize you with a few of the many ways you can utilize the GoLive Timeline and Actions to create animations and multimedia effects.

1:Create a new page. Record a simple animation using one floating box with an image or a few words in it. Select New Scene from the Scenes pop-up in the Timeline Editor. Name the scene Scene 2. Record a second simple animation using a new floating box with an image or a few words in it. Now go back to the first scene by selecting it from the list in the Scenes pop-up. Add an Action midway through the time track of the first scene. From the Actions pop-up in the Inspector, select Multimedia, Play Scene. Select Scene 2 from the pop-up list. Now save your page and preview it in a browser.
2:Add a floating box to a new page and name it Menu One. Inside the floating box, type Item One. Add a second floating box to the page and name it Menu Two. Inside the second floating box, type Item Two. Go to the Inspector and disable the visibility of this floating box so that it becomes invisible.

Now, select the words Item One in the first floating box, and make them a link. Change the "(empty reference)" in the URL field to the # sign. Open the Actions palette. From the pop-up list, choose Multimedia, ShowHide. From the pop-up, choose Menu Two. Now, when the page is loaded, the only thing shown will be the linked words: Item One. When clicked, the other floating box will appear and show the words Item Two. The words in the second box can be linked to a page if you choose.
