Acquainting Yourself with Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is a complete Web development environment—an HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) editor, an authoring tool, a dynamic Web page development tool, and a Web site management tool all rolled into one. Web pages are created using HTML, but you can do many things without ever laying your eyes on any HTML. If you want to produce professional quality Web pages, including scripting, Dreamweaver makes it easy to do so.

HTML is the language of Web pages. This language consists mainly of paired tags contained in angle brackets (<>). The tags surround objects on a Web page, such as text, or stand on their own. For instance, the HTML code to make text bold looks like <b>bold text</b>; the bold tags are an example of paired tags. The ending tag of paired tags always begins with a forward slash. Other tags, like the tag used to insert an image into a Web page, are single tags: <img src=”smile.gif”>.
