Hour 19. Creating a Form and Using a For... > Adding Radio Buttons and Check Boxes

Adding Radio Buttons and Check Boxes

Radio buttons are another type of form element that you can use to collect user input. Radio buttons are grouped so that the user can select only one button of the group at a time; when the user selects a different member of the group, the previously selected button is deselected. To group radio buttons, they all must have the same name. To create a group of radio buttons

1.
Place the insertion point within a form where the radio buttons will be located.

2.
Select the Radio Group object from the Forms tab of the Insert bar or select the Radio Group command from the Form Object submenu of the Insert menu.

3.
Enter the name of the radio button group into the name box of the Radio Group dialog box.

4.
Enter a label name in the Label column and the value of the radio button when it is checked (the checked value) in the Value column. The label is simply text that appears next to the button and is not part of the form. Use the + and – buttons to add or remove radio buttons. Select whether you'd like the buttons placed in a table or separated by linebreaks at the bottom of the dialog box. Click the OK button to save your settings.

5.
Selecting an individual radio button displays its properties in the Property inspector, as shown in Figure 19.12. Choose whether the button will be checked or unchecked when the user first loads the form by selecting either the Checked or Unchecked options, which are located beside the Initial State setting.

Figure 19.12. The name of the radio button is the same for all members of a radio button group. The user can select only one member of the group at a time.
