What Is the ZServer?

Every Zope distribution comes with the so-called ZServer. This is a Web server written in C. It allows you to run Zope without having a Web server, such as Apache. In addition to the Web server, the ZServer provides an FTP server and a PCGI server. This allows a create in Zope but also on how many actions you execute. user to transfer data from and to Zope via FTP.

Sometimes, you may want to use Zope with Apache rather than the ZServer because Apache provides more services than the ZServer or because you have a Web site only partly managed in Zope. For the installation instructions, see the “Installation Using Apache” section later in this chapter.
