Q&A

Q1:What if I'm planning to use some content that's naturally sequential, some that's naturally hierarchical, and some that's random? How do I make it all fit one model?
A1: You don't have to. For more elaborate Web sites, a hybrid approach is called for.

A hybrid approach generally starts out hierarchical, with an overview top page to serve as a starting point. But at the second level, that top page might link down to a one-page linear, or to the top page of what will then spread out into a Web structure, or to the first page of a multipage linear slide show, or to the top of a whole new hierarchy.

With a hybrid approach, you can make content at the second and lower levels conform to whatever structure suits it while still using the top page to hold the whole affair neatly together.
