Part V: Fine-Tuning Your Page > Putting Multiple Links in One Picture

Hour 20. Putting Multiple Links in One Picture

You've seen 'em—those cool-looking pictures and button bars in Web pages that contain multiple links. Click one button or one part of the picture and you go one place; click another part, you go somewhere else. It's a pro touch.

But it's not out of your league, now that you have 19 hours of Web authoring training already under your belt. In this hour, you learn how to apply some of the HTML skills from Hour 17, “Editing HTML,” and scripting skills from Hour 19, “Designing Fill-in-the-Blanks Forms,” to make these multilink pictures happen. At the end of this hour, you'll be able to answer the following questions:

  • How do imagemaps—those inline images with multiple links—work, anyhow?

  • What's the difference between a server-side imagemap and a client-side imagemap?

  • How can I add imagemaps to my Web pages, using Composer in tandem with MapEdit, another program on the CD-ROM?
