Design Considerations

I know what you're thinking. If you've been following along, your index.html Web page is open and the cursor is flashing near the top. You're really ready to start designing your page. Before you get started, there are a few points of Web design that I'd like to stress.

Know Your Customer

Creating a Web site can be a tremendous amount of fun, but it also requires some forethought. You should determine who your site is for before you start building it. If, for example, you're trying to sell yourself as a Web designer, you shouldn't put up a plain gray screen with a text copy of your résumé. At the opposite end of the spectrum, there is no reason to include heavy graphic elements on a page that is designed to quickly provide mainly textual information to it's visitors. Your best bet is to create a balanced site that includes some graphical elements, but uses them to supplement the textual information, not just for looks.
