Q&A

Q1:Why shouldn't I use Tomcat, if it's free?
A1: There's no reason why you shouldn't because it is free or isn't free. Some commercial packages offer better support and faster performance, however. It's best to check all your options before making a decision.
Q2:Why are there so many different embedded languages?
A2: Everyone has a favorite language. Embedding those languages into HTML is the next logical step for creating Web applications. JSP is aimed at Java developers. ASP is aimed at those who have worked in Visual Basic. ColdFusion is one of the few “original” languages that was born solely for the purpose of creating Web sites.
Q3:I run NT and it never crashes. Are you crazy?
A3: Part of the problem with NT is the hardware that it runs on. The “x86” standard is anything but a standard and NT behaves differently with different hardware. That said, I have a very basic install of NT on a commercial server system that blue screens weekly. Maybe it's just me.
Q4:I have a Macintosh and I want to be able to run my own server; can I?
A4: Yes. Be sure to look into the Jakarta project's Tomcat. It will run on Mac OS X and even Mac OS 8/9 with a bit of tweaking.
