Summary

Following up on yesterday's lesson of displaying data, today you learned how to insert data into a form, pass variables between pages in order to display details, and update existing records. UltraDev provides built-in server behaviors for all these different actions and makes it very simple to create sites that work based on a basic screen-by-screen flow.

Unfortunately, you also learned about one of UltraDev's weaknesses—the incapability to recognize multiple primary keys within documents. This creates quite a stumbling block if you're working with existing databases. A potential workaround (which was used extensively today) is to define a recordset that uses the multiple keys to return a single record. This recordset can then be used with the UltraDev delete and update methods without worrying about the key limitations. However, new databases should be designed with this in mind.
