Week: 2 At a Glance > Storing, Editing, and Updating Data from an UltraDev Appl...

Day 11. Storing, Editing, and Updating Data from an UltraDev Application

Yesterday you learned how to create screens that are driven by a database, all from within the UltraDev point-and-click interface. Now, instead of static HTML, you can build Web sites that pull data from your live corporate (or not so corporate) databases. Think of the amount of time you'll save rekeying information. Unfortunately, the only interface that you have to this data is the database itself. In today's lesson, you'll learn how to build a full database interface in the UltraDev application that will let you insert, update, and delete records in your database application. After today, you will be able to fully control a database system from anywhere on the Internet. Today, you will learn how to

  • Create forms. So far you haven't seen the form tools of UltraDev because we haven't had a reason to use them. Today, you will.

  • Connect a form to a database to save user-created data. The local database interface is no longer the only way to access your data.

  • Delete data from a database. Inserting is only part of the problem—you also need to delete information where appropriate.

  • Modify database entries. Although the process of deleting and inserting can be used as a crude form of modifying data, wouldn't it be nice to be able to change the existing values and resave them?
