Day 19. Advanced Techniques: Testing and... > Survey and Testing Systems

Survey and Testing Systems

I've spent hours setting up online testing courses for faculty at The Ohio State University. Usually this is just a matter of creating a few HTML forms that email the student's answers to the professor or save the results for the professor to grade later. Generating these HTML forms repeatedly gets to be a bit tedious, and more than slightly pointless. A better way to handle the task is to set up an extensible system where the HTML is separate from the questions being asked.

The system that you'll be developing today can do just that—record a series of questions and their answers, and then “play back” the questions to students. In order to access the site, the students will log in to the system and complete the questions. When finished, the administrator will be able to view the statistics for each of the students.
