Add a Last Modified Date

There are two ways you can add a last modified date to your Web page: a server-side include and Dreamweaver's Date object. A server-side include takes the last modified date from the file attributes of the page. Dreamweaver's Date object simply updates the date (and time) every time you edit and save the Web page in Dreamweaver. Earlier in this hour you saw the code that can be included to add a last modified date via a server-side include. Now you will learn about Dreamweaver's Date object.

When you select the Date object in the Object palette or the Date command from the Insert menu, the Insert Date dialog box appears as shown in Figure 22.7. Select from the various day, date, and time formats. If you select the Update Automatically on Save checkbox, Dreamweaver will update the date every time you save the Web page. Click OK to insert the date.
