Use the Go To URL Behavior to Load Frames

The Go To URL behavior has the ability to target frames and is a good way to get content to load into two frames at once. For instance, you might want to change both the topFrame and the main content when the user clicks on a hyperlink in the frame called toc. They might have selected a different section of the content that has a different title in the topFrame. Since a hyperlink can only change the contents in one frame you have to use the Go To URL behavior. To use the Go To URL behavior:

  1. Select an object in the frame called topFrame to hyperlink.

  2. Place a # into the Link box in the Property inspector to create a null link.

  3. Select the + button in the Behavior inspector and select Go To URL.

  4. Enter a URL and target the frame named toc as shown in Figure 11.14. Click OK.

Figure 11.14. The Go To URL dialog box enables you to select the target frame for the URL.

  5. Select the + button and the Go To URL behavior again.

  6. Enter a URL and target the frame named main. Click OK.

  7. Save the frames and preview the page in a browser. Click on the link in the top frame and both lower frames should have the new URLs load.
