Add a List or a Menu

Radio buttons are a great way to give the user set choices but sometimes they are not appropriate, for instance, when you have a lot of choices such as when selecting a U. S. state. Allowing the user to select from a drop-down menu helps you collect consistent data. If you allowed the user to enter a state in a text field you might get some users entering the full name, like Washington, other users entering the correct postal abbreviation, like WA, and other users entering anything in between.

The List/Menu object inserts a list of values that the user can select from. You can present the list to users as either a list, displaying a set number of lines, or a menu, a popup menu displaying all the list values. Figure 15.14 shows a list and a menu in a form displayed in the browser.
