Look at Connections

Another good way to understand what is happening in your site is to look at connections as they are created and dropped. One good way to do this is to run netstat in a loop on your web server or middleware or database. On NT, just run netstat with some number of seconds to delay between loops. On Linux, run netstat -c to see connections once per second.

Databases often have hundreds of open connections. A good way to see just the new connections is to turn on the Oracle listener log and run tail -f <logfile>. Only new connections will appear in the log.
