Lesson 4. Working with text and tables > Sorting the contents of a table

Sorting the contents of a table

GoLive makes it easy for you to sort the contents of a table, so that the contents of its rows or columns appear in alphabetical or numerical order. You can apply the sort to an entire table, specific rows, specific columns, or specific cells.

Now you'll use the Select tab of the Table palette to sort the contents of the table.

1.
Move the pointer to the left edge of the table, and click to select the table.

2.
In the Table palette, click the Select tab. (Choose Window > Table palette to open the Table palette if necessary.)

3.
In the preview of the table that appears in the Select tab, drag to select all of the table cells except the cells in the first row, and click Sort.

4.
In the Sort Table dialog box, choose Rows from the Sort pop-up menu to indicate that you want to sort the order of the rows in the table. By sorting the order of the rows, you will make the contents of one or more columns appear in numerical or alphabetical order.

5.
In the top leftmost Sort By pop-up menu, choose Column1 to specify the first column as the primary column to be used when sorting the table's contents. This means that sorting the contents of the first column will be the first priority for GoLive.

You'll specify for the first column to be sorted in ascending order.

6.
Make sure that Ascending is selected from the pop-menu on the Sort By line.

Because the table only has two columns, you don't need to specify a secondary or tertiary column (Then By option) to be used when sorting the table's contents. Sorting the contents of the second column will automatically be the second priority for GoLive.

7.
Click OK to sort the selected table cells using the criteria that you've specified.

8.
Click outside the table to deselect it, and choose File > Save.
