Chapter 8. Using Dreamweaver Templates

Chapter 8. Using Dreamweaver Templates

Macromedia Contribute is in some ways a bit of a paradox. Now that Web sites have become complex, requiring the skills of highly trained designers and Web programmers, Contribute returns to the content contributor the ability to change Web sites simply and directly. With Contribute, you can modify and add to existing Web sites, but you can’t create new sites. Contribute is a terrific tool for the novice, but it works best when using page templates created with Macromedia Dreamweaver, a complex program for Web professionals. Dreamweaver templates let Contribute users add content to pages without bringing down the wrath of the site designer if a mistake is made, and the templates allow everyone, from the administrative assistant to the Web expert, to make quick changes to Web pages, knowing that the site will still look good and work well when they’re finished.

In this chapter, you’ll learn how to create new pages based on Dreamweaver templates, how templates can let you “fill in the blanks” without sacrificing good design, and how to create Starter Pages, the other kind of templates used in Contribute.
