Finding and Replacing Text

Contribute has a fairly rudimentary Find and Replace feature that can search the current draft document for a particular piece of text and then replace that text with another.

To find text:

1.
With the draft page you want to search displayed, choose Edit > Find, or press Ctrl-F (Cmd-F).

The Find and Replace dialog appears (Figure 4.28).

In the “Search for” text box, type the text you’re looking for.

(Optional) If you want to match the case pattern (uppercase or lowercase) of the text you type in the “Search for” text box, select the “Match case” check box.

Click Find Next.

Contribute searches the draft, and if the text is found, it highlights the text in the document window. If Contribute does not find the text, a dialog appears telling you so.

If you want to continue searching, click Find Next again. Otherwise, click Close.

To find and replace text:

1.
With the draft page you want to search displayed, choose Edit > Find, or press Ctrl-F (Cmd-F).

The Find and Replace dialog appears.

In the “Search for” field, type the text you’re looking for.

(Optional) If you want to match the case pattern (uppercase or lowercase) of the text you type in the “Search for” text box, select the “Match case” check box.

4.
Type the text you want as the replacement in the “Replace with” text box.

5.
Click Find Next. Contribute finds the first instance of the search text.

6.
Click Replace.

7.
(Optional) If you want to have Contribute automatically replace all the found text with the contents of the “Replace with” text box, click Replace All.

Contribute displays a dialog telling you how many replacements were made.

8.
Click Close to return to the draft window.
