Understanding Site Definition Requirements

Defining a site for use with a server model, such as ColdFusion, ASP.NET, or PHP, is somewhat more complicated than defining a site for a static HTML site, such as the one created earlier in this book. And if you make a mistake, even a tiny one, you could have some problems.

We will walk you through the process, step-by-step. Because people connect to servers in different ways, the process has some variations, and trying to get it right can be maddening. If you are in a networked environment, and you are connecting to a server over the network, rather than to a copy of Internet Information Services (IIS, available on Windows 2000 and XP Pro) or ColdFusion as a standalone Web server on your computer, your best resource is the network administrator, who should be able to provide you with many answers. If you are using a server on your machine (this is called a local server), the directions here should be sufficient.
