Lesson 10. Animation and Interactivity > Publishing Your Flash Movie

Publishing Your Flash Movie

The organic farming movie is complete and you are ready to publish it on the Web within the Jade Valley site. You'll export your Flash movie as a SWF file and save it in the jade_valley/flash folder within your site. Then you will replace the static content in organic.html with the Flash movie that you've developed.

1.
Choose File > Export Movie to save the movie in SWF format. Name the file organic_farming.swf and save it in the jade_valley/flash folder in your site. Accept the default settings in the Export Flash Player dialog.

You need to save this file as a SWF, because most users have the free Flash Player that displays only SWF files.

2.
Launch Dreamweaver and open organic.html. Delete the existing content in the right column of the page.

You're going to replace the content in the right column of this html page with your Flash movie, so remove the content, including the heading, body text, and graphic.

3.
With the insertion point positioned in the blank space you just created, choose Insert > Media > Flash in the main menu. Select organic_farming.swf from the flash folder.

You see a large gray box representing the Flash movie in the right column of the page.

4.
Save organic.html.

You are done working on the file. All that remains is to test it.

5.
Click anywhere in the open document, and press F12 to open organic.html in a Web browser.

Notice the small line breaks that occur. The reason for the breaks is that the Flash movie is just a few pixels too large to fit in the table layout of the HTML page.

6.
Return to Dreamweaver. Click to select the Flash placeholder. In the Property inspector, lower the Width to 523 pixels, and the Height to 380 pixels.

This step decreases the movie by about 5 percent, which is enough to make it fit within the table cell. As a vector-based medium, Flash movies scale up and down quite well.

7.
Click anywhere in the open document, and press F12 to open organic.html in a Web browser.

This time the entire movie fits gracefully inside the layout.
