Linking to Microsoft Word and Excel Files

Providing a link to an Office file is the same as linking to any other document. You'll want to let your users know, however, that your link leads to a Word or Excel file. Some users scanning for quick information don't want to open non-HTML files while they're working, for any number of reasons, from security to convenience. And of course, there will always be those who don't have applications to open these files.

I recommend labeling your links (Figure 10.5), as well as providing a sufficient description of the file so that your visitors can evaluate beforehand whether it's worth their time to download the file. Using Dream weaver, you can use some simple dialog boxes to manage links to Word and Excel files; however, you can also create basic links to these files in the same way you would create links to regular old Web pages.
