Chapter 12. Setting Up Tables > Inserting a Table in Standard Mode

Inserting a Table in Standard Mode

When you insert a table in this mode, you first choose a starting width and decide how many columns and rows you want to begin with.

To insert a table (Standard mode)

1.
Click to place the insertion point where you'd like the table to appear. This can be on a blank page or inside an existing table cell.

2.
From the menu bar, select Insert > Table.

or

Click on the Table button on the Layout category of the Insert bar.

Either way, the Table dialog box will appear (Figure 12.12).

Figure 12.12. Set the initial size of your table in the Insert Table dialog box. This dialog box shows the default settings for inserting a table.

If you're a returning Dreamweaver user, you'll notice that our friend the Insert Table dialog box has changed a great deal in appearance; we will cover all the elements in this dialog box later in this chapter, not to worry.

3.
Type the number of rows you want in your table in the Rows text box.

4.
Type the number of columns you want in your table in the Columns text box.

5.
Choose a width for your table in either Pixels or Percent.

To set the table width to a percentage of the page width, select Percent from the Width drop-down menu and type a number in the Width text box (Figure 12.13).

or

To set an exact width, select Pixels from the Width drop-down menu and type a number in the text box (Figure 12.14).

Figure 12.14. I'm setting the table width to an exact pixel width.

I'll discuss the other table options later in this chapter.

6.
Click OK to close the Insert Table dialog box. Your new table will appear (Figure 12.15).

Figure 12.15. I inserted a new table with five rows and two columns. It takes up 75 percent of the window.
