Moving Files

You can also use the Files panel like a file manager to move files around.

To move files from folder to folder

1.
View the file(s) you want to move by double-clicking the folder that contains them. To select multiple files, hold down Ctrl (Command) while clicking. To select contiguous files, hold down Shift while clicking (Figure 2.44).

Figure 2.44. Folders with hidden contents have a plus sign (Windows) or an arrow (Mac) to the left of them; backups, in this figure, is empty. Folders display their contents with the files indented under them. To open or close a folder, double-click on it. Here, I've selected three files to move.

2.
Click on the selected file(s) or folder(s), hold down the mouse button, and drag them to a new location (Figure 2.45).

Figure 2.45. Here, I've moved the three files selected in Figure 2.44 into the backups folder. I've also expanded the Files panel and now I can see additional file information for each file.

See Steps 2 and 3 under To rename a file or folder on the previous page to find out about updating links to renamed or moved files.
