About Paragraph Tags

The tag for a paragraph is
. In the old days of hand coding HTML, people often didn't close paragraphs with a
tag because originally, the
tag didn't require it. However, the most recent XHTML specifications require that you surround a paragraph with
and
tags, as Dream weaver does. This makes the paragraph into a container, which makes it a valuable tag for CSS.

Until the introduction of style sheets, this wasn't an issue anyone worried about; however, style sheets let you change the properties of an enclosed tag, and defining the
tag's properties only does any good if you close your paragraphs with the
tag.
