Breaking Lines Without Adding a Blank Line

If you want to break the line without inserting a line of blank space, you can use a line break.

To make a line break

1.
In the Document window, type the text in the first paragraph. The text will wrap automatically.

2.
At the end of the line you want to break, press Shift+Enter (Shift+Return).

The line will break, and the insertion point will begin at the next line (Figures 9.5 and 9.6).

Figure 9.5. The best way to break a line without adding white space, as you would in a poem, is to use a line break rather than a paragraph break. Press Shift+Enter (Shift+Return).


Figure 9.6. You can keep breaking lines until the cows come home. All these lines exist within the same paragraph, or <p> and </p> tags.
