Java Applets

Java is used to create multimedia applications that can run on any computer platform. Java is an object-oriented programming language based on C++ and developed by Sun Microsystems. Currently, most Java applets (little applications) are run inline inside a Web browser, although stand-alone programs—and even operating systems—have been written for Java.

Java applets run on Netscape 2 or later for PCs, Netscape 2.2 or later for the Mac, and Internet Explorer 3 or later for either platform. It must be said here that Microsoft wishes Java didn't exist, and that to use Java without crashing, Mac users should use the latest available browsers.
