About Fonts and Typefaces

You can set the typeface, or font, for any text on your page (Figure 8.42). Typefaces can be a joy to work with—some of my favorites include Baskerville, Futura, Perpetua, Arial Black, and the Copperplate family. The thing is, these fonts are called slightly different things on my Mac and my PC—and some don't appear on both machines. If I can't match a handful of fonts between two computers, you can count on not all your users' having the same fonts you do.

Figure 8.42. This selection of my favorite fonts is different on my Windows PC and my Mac, and to create near-match typography for a wide audience, I will need to specify variations in a font group.
