Chapter 8. Fonts and Characters > Replacing Text Strings

Replacing Text Strings

Once you've found some text, it's likely that you're going to want to do something with it. In this task, we'll find and replace some text with other text.

To replace one piece of text with another

1.
From the Document window menu bar, select Edit > Find and Replace, or press Ctrl+H (Command+H). The Find and Replace dialog box will appear (Figure 8.91).

Figure 8.91. Type the text you want to find in the Search For text box, and the text you want to replace it with in the Replace With text box.

2.
Type the text you want to destroy in the Search For text box.

3.
Type the text you want to replace it with in the Replace With text box.

4.
If you want to narrow or refine your search, you can activate the Match case, Ignore whitespace, or Match whole word options. See Steps 4 to 6 in the preceding stepped list if you need help using these checkboxes.

5.
To supervise the search, click Find Next, and when Dreamweaver finds an instance of the Find text string (the words or tags in the Find text box), it will highlight it in the document window. Then, you can click Replace to supplant it with the text in the Replace text box, or Find Next to skip that instance and highlight the next.

or

To have Dreamweaver automatically replace all Find text strings with the concomitant Replace text, click Replace All. A dialog box will appear telling you how many replacements were made.

6.
When you're all done, click Close to return to the Document window.
