Chapter 15. Using Head Elements

Chapter 15. Using Head Elements

The head of an HTML document contains information that is used behind the scenes: by Web browsers, Web servers, CGI scripts, and robots that index the Web for search engines and so on.

The <head> of a document includes the document title, and it can also include scripts and CSS style definitions. In this chapter, we’re going to discuss the other tags that are used in the document head to provide information about the document. Informally, these tags are often known as meta tags because the tag for many of them is <meta> Similar to the anchor tag <a> or the <input> tag used for many different kinds of form fields, the <meta> tag can serve different purposes depending on what attributes it’s given.
